AFC Wimbledon and Galliard Homes are currently waiting to hear whether the Mayor of London will approve their plans to develop Plough Lane. In the meantime, the banger racing community has upped its campaign to retain the right to use Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium for stock car activities.
They are calling via their facebook page for fans to appeal directly to the Mayor, pointing out:
“not only is Wimbledon Stadium the last of the Grand Sporting venues in the capital, but it is also the last motorsport and greyhound venue within London’s postal code zone. Stock Car Racing has taken place at the ‘Grand Old Lady’ since 1962. To this day it still hosts meetings every Sunday night, October through to March.”
Meanwhile, AFC Wimbledon also insist on their historic right to play in Plough Lane where Wimbledon FC was based before relocating to Milton Keynes to become the MK Dons.
